Editorial Reviews:

The DELTA 23-725 8-Inch Industrial Grinder is constructed with a 120-volt, 0.75 HP motor with a slow speed of 1,725 RPM to reduce heat while grinding. The grinder also includes a friable, aluminum oxide wheel suitable for working on high-speed steel tools. A flexible lamp provides optimum visibility while you work. Adjustable tool rests move horizontally, vertically, and tilt to achieve your exact desired grinding angle. Operator safety is ensured by the machine's superior shatterproof eye shields, adjustable spark deflectors, removable side plates, and wheel guards. The steel wheel guards include built-in dust ports for quick cleanup with a metal dust collector. An easy-to-reach water tray allows you to immediately cool tools as you work.

User Comments about the DELTA 23-725 8-Inch Industrial Grinder

I needed this grinder to sharpen wood turning tools. I replaced the wheels with some nicer Norton models. It's not that noisy, and it's well balanced and smooth. I bought this from Amazon, but the first one arrived damaged in shipping. Overall, I'm very happy with the grinder.

It's pretty heavy, and it had been dropped on it's side and damaged the side of the grinder (Amazon quickly replaced). I also got the Wolverine grinding jig. In some of the less expensive grinders, you have to build up a base under the center part of the grinder to elevate it up enough to allow you to mount the Wolverine jig under the grinding wheel. But this model of grinder seems to have taken that into account already, and it's base is high enough that you have room to mount a jig under the wheel without any modifications.

Amazon Prime is worth the money. Not a lot more money than a grinder with only half the power from the local big box store. I would purchase this same unit again. The grinder arrived the day after I ordered it. The grinder runs strong, true, and steady. Thanks Amazon. The wheels dressed up quickly with the enclosed dresser.

It is true, the wheels it comes with do need to be trued, but that only takes a second, and I due that with all new wheels any ways. Oh, and it does come with a wheel dresser. One complaint, is I wish the light came with a light bulb. It's exactly as expected. Quick assembly, but poor instruction. It arrived in an abused box, but none of the parts were damaged, I had it running shortly just to make sure, and it's great. Could have more pics, but any one with any mechanical adbility will breeze through it.

I just bought a Dayton industrial grinder off of Ebay for about the same price so as soon as that one arrives I will be canceling. They are now claiming a November delivery date for the $166 price including shipping. Had they told me it would be August, I would have waited. Now I am convinced that Amazon gave a really late ship date to get people to cancel so they wouldn't have to honor the $166 price instead if getting $250+. As the previous reviewers have observed, I ordered this item on April 1, 2007 and the April Fool's joke was on me. Amazon refused to do anything and Delta's site question service just said they didn't have these in stock yet Amazon is still taking orders via one of their allied vendors. Even more shame on Amazon & Delta. Shame on all of them.Update, 23 Aug.

I wanted this grinder and attempted to order it from a different supplier for only $13 more. 11th. I am monitoring the price while I wait and at one point it dropped to $166.25 so I fired off an email and Amozon extended that price to me. I ordered this on Febuary 10 and to-date have had Amazon change the delivery estimates 4 times. but alas they too backordered the thing. I odered the thing on Feb 10th of this year.

I intend to wait them out. somehow I suspect sometime before June 5th I will get another email from Amozon informing me of yet another delay (which would be the 5th). I let it be a race between Amazon and the new guy and Amazon won. I sent an email tonight to cancel the other order. giving me first an estimated delivery date at the end of July and then one sometime in Sept. I have had a similar experience with delays. So far that has been the highlight of this whole ordeal.

The thought has crossed my mind that Amazon may have known all along that they were not getting a shipment of these grinders in until the 3rd or 4th quarter of this year and are just trying to pre-sell the lot.Wow. the current delivery estimate is between June 5 - 20th. almost 6 months to the day. When I ordered it was $175. The last update Amazon estimated shipping was Nov. I will update this post after I use it for a while to actually give a review of the product and not the debacle that was the order experience. Today is August 9th, 2007 and I just got an email from Amazon that the grinder has shipped.
