I purchased this as a replacement. This was a very good experience. I had a very good experience with the old one so I wanted the same kind & model. Your time table for us receiving it was surpassed and it arrived about 3 days before we were told it would arrive.
Thankfully I've not needed. Prevention is always best practice. With gas heat, just didn't want to take a chance of NOT waking up one morning, as I understand you are asleep before anyone uncovers a leak.
I also bought a KN-COB-IC, Kidde 120V Hardwired Nighthawk Interconnectable Carbon Monoxide Alarm with Battery Backup to replace the defective smoke detector. My house was full of smoke and my old detector didn't go off. Two times in the last year I had potentially life-threatening fires. Fortunately I was awake both times and dealt with the problems promptly with no loss of life or fire damage. After the second time my old detector didn't alert me; I had to take action. My review for that product is pretty-much the same except it uses an expensive 9V battery instead of the AA batteries this one uses. The Kidde seemed like a good choice because it has several features I like:* Hard-wired with battery backup.* It sets of the other smoke detectors in the event of a fire or CO problem.* Ionizing smoke detector is state-of-the-art.* It talks and beeps.* It uses inexpensive AA BatteriesFor the life of me, I can't understand why the local building code only requires one smoke detector on the first floor so I bought this as added protection.
Installation was easy, however, there was a discrepancy on which screw holes to use for mounting, but this was rectified with a call to customer service.(Mount as shown on p. Product-life is two (2) years greater than comparable First Alert model & it has an LED light showing it's "working properly" [not available on First Alert].If you're a NY State resident, it is now a law that homes w/fuel-burning furnaces etc. This combo alarm is the answer. Purchased three of these a week ago to replace old smoke-only alarm w/9-volt battery. must have a CO alarm.
The AA-battery is a big plus, since this size is almost universal in electronic devices. #15 of instruction book). Also, you do NOT have to use tamper-resistant feature to install. (This option is for use in public areas, access by children etc).
This is a very well-built product that is easy to install. Cheers. I bought 3 of these, and am very happy.
