Editorial Reviews:

A laminate trimmer is important for fine jobs with lighter application. The Porter-Cable 309 is ideal for the job with its easy one-handed operation and durable ball bearing construction. Constructed with flat top to ensure efficient and secure bit changes and amply supported by a non-marking base, this laminate router is easy to operate and durable. Not only does this router complete a range of laminate applications, but it also is useful for grooving or veining with the use of ΒΌ inch shank router bits. Packaged with the router is motor 3102, base 3101, wrenches 44745, and an operator's manual.

User Comments about the Porter-Cable 309 3.8 Amp Laminate Trimmer

The company that I work for has all ways used the porter cable routers for our production work. We use our routers on a daily bases. This router is lite weight and last a long time.

This is one great little router. One time I was talked into buying a Porter Cable 7310 laminate trimmer instead of a 309 - what a mistake. I'm a professional woodworker. Like I said, if you're considering a 1/4 router don't get the 7310, get this one, the 309 is the one to get. Over the years we've used several of these little 309 routers (more accurately, a laminate trimmer). It doesn't have a lot of frilly micro adjustments or other things for the hobbyist, but if you're a professional woodworker and need a good, solid 1/4 inch mica trimmer/router this is the one to get. One hand hold, and not very heavy to use for long periods of time.

I've owned and operated a small woodworking shop for more than twenty years. We sometimes use it in the shop with a 1/4 inch profile bits to put an edge on some of our woodwork. It's just your basic 1/4 inch laminate trimmer/router.

I'm not sure what advantages are offered by buying this router over the 310 model, except for a savings of about 15 bucks. Don't buy cheese on your burgers for a month and spend the cash you save on a 310. I'm really not sure why Porter Cable makes this router, as it seems an inferior redundancy to the 310. I'm with the other reviewer on this one. The 310 is also compact but more powerful, and can be fitted with optional tilt and offset bases, whereas the 309 cannot. Absolutely worth it. The base on the 309 is a smaller diameter than the 310, and thus is tall, skinny, and unstable.

why bother with this router. this tool is a copout from PC, I don't know why they bother making it. spend 20 bucks more and buy a Portercable 310 instead. Better housing, micro adjust.

It has plenty of power, but of course doesn't fully replace a larger router. I don't know how I got by without this little router. I have other larger routers that are very nice, but if at all possible, I now use this little sweetie. When I ordered this router I thought it may be used just here and there (rare occasions) in my shop, boy was I wrong. It is so easy to use that my 12 year old son does alot of the decorative edging needed in the shop (he enjoys using it and is not afraid of it like the larger routers).
