User Comments about the Black & Decker WM425 Workmate 425-550 Pound Capacity Portable Work Bench

I HAVE JUST GOTEN AROUND TO TRYING TO ASSEMBLE THE PRODUCT-ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS ARE VAGUE AND NOT CLEAR BUT THE MAIN PROBLEM I HAVE IS SOME PARTS SHOWN ON THE INCLUDED PARTS LISTS ARE MISSING SO I CAN NOT ASSEMBLE THE PRODUCT AT THIS TIME

is almost impossible. All in all, a pain. This makes it less likely that you'll break them by leaving them in the chock holes. I've had two Workmate benches over the past 15 years, and I find them very useful. I'd strongly suggest ordering a second set of the chocks (also called cleats or pegs--available from Amazon) since they're what will wear out the soonest.Don't expect Home Depot/Lowe's to have the parts.as usual, they never carry that stuff.A tip: attach some "broomholder-style" spring clips to the footstand edge to hold your chocks.

But getting replacement parts (crank handles, handle crank belt, chocks, etc). I had to buy them from a wholesaler as there was no other source here in Denver. To do that, I had to get a business tax number. I still paid retail, plus tax.

this is portable, easy to use. It was a gift for my son & he uses it all the time.

The plastic assembly wrench is totally useless. I could not believe that this was actually a B&D product. It is cheap and flimsy and the assembly instrucions are nearly impossible to follow. What a piece of junk. The jaws do not close properly nor do they fit tightly.

It folds down for easy storage. You can paint things on it without concern.Overall, a useful addition to my home workshop. Any man who likes to work with tools will appreciate it as a gift. I've had mine for about 1 year.It is not "contractor grade"- particle board work top, plastic knobs, etc., but it is fine for moderate duty. Glad I bough it.

I use it to hold 2x4's or 2X6's that I am sawing, clamp furniture I am glueing, support my bike, build bird houses. In my opinion, it won't replace a solid permanent workshop bench, but it is great for taking outside when working in the yard or next to my boat. The "step" allow you to make it more secure when sawing heavy timber. It is also a handy portable work table.
