User Comments about the Freud LU85R012 12-Inch 96 Tooth ATB Crosscutting Saw Blade with 1-Inch Arbor and PermaShield Coating

Purchased this blade for a DeWalt 12-inch compound miter saw. I definitely would not spend the additional money for this blade again. Although the blade does a good job on most cuts, I honestly see no difference between this blade and my old Freud blade costing a little over half as much.

I have been woodworking for over 40 years and in my openion, this is the blade to use for finish work. I use this on my Delta 12" lazer chop saw for finish work. This blade cuts very smooth with no splintering. I had one of these for years and had it resharpened until the teeth could be sharpened no more. There are other blades out there that will equal the performance of this blade but not at this price. I replaced it with a Forest chop saw blade bucause I use Forest on most of my other saws and they work great but the Forest blade would not make the smooth cuts I needed so I went back to this Freud balde.

And it fits snuggly on my 5/8" arbor, no play. But you can't really chop cut with the blade. Super smooth cuts. You have to take a few extra miliseconds than you would with a 60 tooth, but you make that up in sanding and/or gluing time since the cut is now at about a 150-grit finish anyway. All-in-all I find it an excellent blade for my second most important saw (my table saw has a Woodworker II). It seems to run quieter than the blade I replaced (can't recall the brand or model since its been on so long).

After setting up my new DeWalt sliding miter saw I decided I wanted a better blade for cabinet work, The first blade I bought was the 12-96T Freud Diablo, and after a few cuts I new that this was not the precision I wanted, so after reading the reviews I sent the Diablo back and ordered this blade, The blade runs smooth but the cut edges are torn out on the back side, and when I cut a piece of 5 1/2" base molding at a 45* the back side is splintered about 1/8" deep. For those who want to try the Freud good luck (as for me the Forrest chpmaster is my choice) I just bought a 10" Forrest WW11 for my table saw and WOW, from now on the Forrest is for me.

Like always the cuts are glass smooth and make perfect joints I have used the blades for six months, making thousands of cuts on prefinished poplar moulding and they still make glass smooth cuts. I build picture frames and sell wholesale. I used a dewalt miter saw with this blade for a year before buying one of the expensive double cut miter saws. I just ordered two more simply because they were on sale and I might need them next year. "The state of the art precision blades" that came on the saw left a lot to be desired I immediately ordered two of the LU85012 blades to tune up the saw.
