To date I have purchased three books on timber framing. I also liked the fact that he is not afraid to give specific names on where to purchase tools and supplies. I would buy anyone of them again, but this is definitely the best one for a lay person like myself. The guidance is easier to follow.
This book gave me the information I needed to build a timber frame structure. It's description of joints and instructions on procedures to cut them was very through.
I own several books on this subject and have borrowed more from friends and libraries. This is the best book I have come across, it covers the widest range of matters and communicates the information most effectively.
Very good book with philosophy of the design, with good engineering information. It covers only classic timber framing, which means metal (nail, bolt, connectors) I found good details on joinery, how to equip yourself for timber framing. I was mostly interested in engineering and found a lot of information, including example on how to verify if joints are correct.
Excellent book, very thorough. Would not ignore any of his advice if you would like your frame to be safe and last for generations. Lots of good info on engineering, stresses and design of joints. Also good info on timbers, where they are cut in the log, shrinkage, and more.
