Those that pan the book comment that it is too simplistic. For me, Karen nailed the movtivation. It's motivation we need. I just ignored those parts of the book. But where I think Karen gets it right is in her insights into why we have a clutter problem and why we should do something about it. OK, I agree with all the critiques about the new-agey part of this tome.
And, yes, perhaps some practical tips. It's pretty over-the-top. Well, heck, it's not rocket-science that we shouldn't have too much stuff for our space and that things should have a place and we should put them there after we use them. She made me see that clutter-free is possible, and more importantly, that it's essential for me to live the life I want.If you are on a de-cluttering journey, join me at http://lazygirlcottage.blogspot.com/ Hello.
This book is filled with ideas on space clearing and why you need to do it. This is a really great book. It also dives into clearing the body and inner self of clutter.
I learned to "see" clutter I had been missing and to think about some of the consequences of clutter that I hadn't considered before. Very readable in small manageable chapters and topic sections. This is one of my favorite books on clutter clearing. The author's ideas about room flow, space, and energy make intuitive sense and are easy to apply. This book also addresses the sometimes neglected topics of mental, emotional, and spiritual clutter. Ideas are both pragmatic and thoughtful.
Clearing Clutter is a process. I have had this book for about 2 years , and I have referred to it often. I didn't know much about Feng Shui before I got it, but I did know about clutter. It takes awareness and practice, and with this book I have learned skills that I have been able to pass along to my kids. The simple, common sense instructions and definition of clutter helped me focus on the real issues and see more clearly where I could make improvements.
This book was very motivating and pursuasive. She makes good points about the material things we own.Since Ive read her book Ive been able to let go of things no matter how expensive or appealing it is.I hope she writes more books
