Very very nice. I highly recommend Living Cuisine: The Art and Spirit of Raw Foods (Avery Health Guides) above all others as the ONE book to buy. Very my style. That said, there are better books out there if you are going to buy just one book. What I liked best about this book was that it was organized in meals and menus. I wish more were written this way. If you are buying several and have money to burn, this is an ok book I suppose. I also really liked Carol Alt's food philosophy as she is not vegan and includes raw foods of all kinds including dairy and seafoods.
The only drawback for me was there are few photos of the recipes. The recipes are simple to follow, creative, and amazingly delicious. Carol Alt's second installment of raw food recipes is a fitting tribute to her first book. Many of the recipes are contributions from family members and friends, which offers range to the book. but, overall, I really love this book. She includes the nutritional "why." behind some of the chosen ingredients, and I thought that really demonstrated her knowledge, experience, and passion about the raw food lifestyle.
Interesting read. Love ideas about alternatives in healthy eating. Some of the recipes take a lot of work like dehydrating "crackers or breads." Some ingredients are difficult to find and expensive. It's a lifestyle change, not something that is easy to do. Snack and drink ideas are good.
And the Lettuce Shell Tacos left me a fire-breather from so much onion. The Avocado-Cucumber soup is way too watery and doesn't look at all like it does in the picture. I had great hopes for this book and for it helping me to embark on a raw lifestyle, but after making many of the recipes, I'm frustrated. Some of the recipes are really good, some are great, but many just aren't right.like they were not tested at all. I couldn't even finish 1 serving. So, if as you're adding an ingredient and you think it doesn't seem quite right, go with your gut. Maybe if you don't add any water at all (rather than the 4c in the recipe it would be fine).
i love the book, i can,t wait to try the recipes,i love the shopping list for raw pantry, i went shopping at whole foods & found most items listed.
